Mines don’t always stick to one method. Shallow deposits are usually mined from the surface using open-pit methods, but once the ore gets deeper, underground mining takes over or both methods are used together.

Well both are used depending on the nature of the ore body, most start with open surface mining and when they mine to certain depths switch to underground : so they switch if mining with the open methods isn’t economically favorable as compared to the underground method.

I’m Bright, a passionate geological engineering graduate from KNUST, originally from Juaben in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. I’ve always been fascinated by the Earth and its processes, which inspired me to pursue a career in this field. Along the way, I’ve earned several academic awards and scholarships in recognition of my dedication and hard work. I have a strong interest in exploration geochemistry and geophysics for mineral exploration, as well as geotechnical investigations and resource development.
